With the drastic drop in estrogen levels, the body goes through many changes inside out, such as:
Bone – Without estrogen’s bone-protective properties, the bones become more susceptible to thinning (osteoporosis) and risk of fractures.
Brain – Estrogen is important for good mental health, which is why menopausal women tend to experience mood swings, depression, forgetfulness and irritability.
Heart – Risk of heart disease increases drastically after menopause, partly because of the increase in the bad cholesterol due to lowered metabolism and also because the ovaries had stopped producing heart-protective hormones.
