PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – 2023
Dear Members of the Malaysian Menopause Society (MMS),
It is my great pleasure to invite all members of the Malaysian Menopause Society to our 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28th May 2023 at Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Registration and refreshment will start at 8:45 am, followed by four medical talks. The AGM will commence at 11:00 am, followed by an EXCO 2023-2025 team election and a scrumptious buffet lunch at Lemon Garden Cafe.
I am pleased to report to you on the activities and achievements of the society over the past year. As you know, our organization is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women during and after menopause, and I am pleased to say that we have made significant progress toward this goal.
One of our key accomplishments in 2022 has been the development of new Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for the Management of Menopause in Malaysia. These guidelines have been developed in collaboration with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society of Malaysia (OGSM) and leading experts in the field. It provides evidence-based recommendations for managing hot flushes, insomnia, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and other common symptoms of menopause.
In addition to our work on guidelines, we have continued promoting awareness of menopause and its impact on women’s health. We organized a World Menopause Day public forum in October at Sunway Hotel, attended by more than 200 members and non-members of the Malaysian Menopause Society. The full-day event aimed at educating women about menopause and empowering them to take control of their health during this time of transition included educational talks, entertainment, exhibitions, door gifts, lucky draws, delicious tea breaks, and lunch. The EXCOs and I were delighted to see many happy faces throughout the event.
Starting a Menopause Support Group (MSG) is challenging, but being able to help women in our community will be a rewarding experience. By providing a safe and supportive space for women to share their experiences and exchange information, we can empower them to take control of their health during this time of transition. Pantai Hospital Cheras has agreed to sponsor the venue for these events, which will likely be held once in two months.
The Malaysian Menopause Society (MMS) collaborates with the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (COGAMM) to organize the 56th Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine (56th MSCM) in conjunction with MyWoman International Congress 2023 on 7th to 9th July 2023, at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur Hotel. This continuous professional development (CPD) scientific event will provide 20 CPD points for healthcare professionals, which is adequate for the Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) requirement.
Finally, I am pleased to report that the Malaysian Menopause Society has managed to join the Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies (CAMS) of the International Menopause Society (IMS) and will be leading the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation (APMF) for the first time in October this year.
I cordially invite all healthcare professionals to the 9th Scientific Meeting of the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation (APMF) on 6-8 October 2023 at The Stones Hotel in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. The theme is “Normal Lifestyle of Menopausal Woman after Pandemic Covid-19.” Please refer to the flyer and go online for early bird registration.
In closing, I thank all our members, volunteers, and EXCOs for their support, hard work, notable contributions, and dedication to our society’s mission. I am confident that with your continued support, we will be able to make even more significant strides in improving the health and well-being of women during and after menopause.
.
With appreciation,
Dr Ho Choon Moy FRCOG
President, Malaysian Menopause Society
