Report on World Menopause Day 2015

Categories: In The News

World Menopause Day 2015 was celebrated with gusto on 17 October 2015 at the Sunway Resort Hotel. Themed ‘Redefining Womanhood’, the event attended by over 200 women of all ages featured new perspectives on menopause, marking it as a cause of celebration instead of sadness at the ending of a woman’s reproductive life.

The full-day event started off with educational talks by Dr Ho Choon Moy, Consultant Gynaecologist and President of Malaysian Menopause Society (MMS), as well as Dr Wong Kim Lei, Consultant Gynaecologist and Immediate Past President of MMS. Topics covered included ‘Redefining Womanhood’, ‘New Developments in Menopause Therapy’, “Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause’ and ‘Easy Ways to Restore Your Feminity’.

The audience were then treated to a tantalising belly dance performance by Jolly Belly, followed by a talk and demonstration on Nordic Walking by MMS member Mrs Jagjit Singh. An awe-inspiring magic show by magician Rev Angel ensued, followed by an introduction to self-actualisation by self-development trainer Anthony Dass from Achiever’s Platform.

More excitement were in store after lunch, with 50 participants trooping off to an exciting 8 Gems Treasure Hunt where they had to hunt for eight fruits around the premises of Sunway Resort Hotel. Participants to this MMS’ inaugural Treasure Hunt were delighted to know that they could bring home all the fruits they collected, courtesy of exotic produce importer Euro Atlantic.

While the adventurous lot were busy treasure hunting, the rest of the audience continued with the empowering session on self-actualisation. The sessions brought many women to tears, as they explored their personal inhibitions and learnt ways to break free from self-damaging thoughts and perceptions.

The programme was interspersed with lucky draws, while booths from sponsoring companies made brisk business during breaks and lunch. In the background, ladies of all ages and backgrounds had a gala time snapping selfies, wefies and catching up.

MMS extends heartfelt appreciation to sponsors – Abbott, DKSH, Achievers’ Platform, CellLabs, Nuvanta, Euro-Atlantic, iNova, Protherapix and Summit – for their support of the event. Most of all, sincere thanks go to all MMS members and non-members who participated in World Menopause Day 2015.
